비트리 갤러리는 오는 6월 24일부터 7월 17일까지 이혜미 개인전 《은빛, 손으로 빚은 시간 Silver pigments, time made by hands》 展을 개최한다. 이혜미 작가는 여행 중 만난 다양한 나라의 빈티지 그릇들과 박물관에서 만나는 옛 선조들의 그릇에서 많은 영감을 받아 작업을 한다. 오래된 것, 옛 것, 익숙한 것에 감동받으며 늘 시간을 담을 수 있는 작업을 하고자 하는 이혜미 작가는 손으로 빚는 과정 하나하나가 작업에 묻어나기를 바라고 흙의 자연스러운 질감을 살리는 작업을 지향한다. 정성을 담은 시간이 쌓인 작업은 진심을 담고 있다고 이야기 하는 이혜미 작가의 작품을 통해 같은 작품이더라도 모두다 다를 수 밖에 없는 일품적가치를 느껴보시기 바랍니다.

이혜미 작가의 작업은 흙을 손으로 빚고, 그 위에 은을 여러 번 덧발라 굽는 작업을 반복하여 새로운 물성의 오브제를 창조한다. 멀리서 보면 은기 같지만, 자세히 보고, 만져보면 은에서는 느낄 수 없는 깊이와 온기를 지니고 있다. 손으로 빚어 똑같은 모양이 하나도 없으며 비정형의 형태에서 오히려 수작업의 매력을 느낄 수 있다. 이혜미 작가의 은기 작품들은 유약을 바르고 구워 완성한 후에 은채를 덮고, 굽고, 연마하는 과정을 두세 차례 더 반복하는 과정을 거치는 손으로 빚은 시간의 작품이다.
이탈리아의 디자이너 알레산드로 멘디니(Alessandro Mendini)가 ‘마치, 시간이 쌓인 것 같다.’ 이야기한 이혜미의 작품들은 하나의 물성만으로는 표현 할 수 없는 묵직한 아름다움을 지닌다. 오브제를 넘어 실제로 사용할 수 있는 실용성이 높은 은채 작업은 교토 여행중 새카맣게 변한 순은 도자기 찻잔의 아름다움을 만끽하며 사용하던 티마스터를 만난 경험을 계기로 본격적으로 시작하였다. 만드는 과정을 지나 사용하는 순간에도 시간이 녹아드는 이혜미 작가의 작품들은 작은 구석까지도 오롯이 손으로 하나하나 빚어 보드라운 흙의 질감과 비정형의 형태가 매력적이다.
