토비아스 카스파
작가 소개
1984년 스위스 바젤에서 태어난 토비아스 카스파는 현재 스위스 취리히와 라트비아 리가에서 거주하며 활동하고 있다. 독일 함부르크 예술대학교(Hochschule für Bildende Künste Hamburg)와 프랑크푸르트 슈테델슐레 예술대학교(Hochschule für Bildende Künste–Städelschule)에서 수학했다.
2007년 데뷔 전시 이후 취리히의 갤러리 페터 킬시만(Galerie Peter Kilchmann), 노르웨이의 VI,VII, 베이징의 우르스 마일레(Galerie Urs Meile) 등 유수의 컨템포러리 아트 갤러리와 스위스 주요 지역의 쿤스트할레(Kunsthalle), 노르웨이 아스트루프 펀리 현대미술관(Astrup Fearnley Museet), 프랑스 팔레 드 도쿄(Palais de Tokyo)를 비롯한 주요 미술관에서 활발
히 소개되고 있다.
2011년 UBS 문화재단 기금(UBS Kulturstiftung)을, 2011년과 13년 두 차례에 걸쳐 스위스 미술상(Swiss Art Awards)을 수상했다. 출판에도 열정적인 관심을 가지고 있는 작가는 2009년 미술 잡지 PROVENCE를 창간하고 현재까지 공동 편집자를 맡고 있다.
파운드리 서울은 2022년 10월 22일부터 12월18일까지 스위스 취리히와 라트비아 리가를 기반으로 활동하는 토비아스 카스파의 국내 최초 개인전 Personal Shopper 를 선보인다. 전시의 제목인 Personal Shopper 는 의뢰인을 대신하여 전문적으로 쇼핑을 대행해주는 사람을 일컫는 말이다. 작가는 패션과 소비적 욕망의 코드와 이를 둘러싼 사회적 맥락을 시각적, 언어적으로 살펴보며 이를 작업에 담아내는데, 퍼스널 쇼퍼가 수행하는 일이 바로 예술가로서 자신의 역할과 닮아 있다고 느낀다.
특별히 작가는 동시대 개인의 정체성과 행동 양식의 형성에 커다란 영향을 끼치는 동시에 사회의 변화를 예민하게 포착하고 이에 재빠르게 반응하는 ‘패션’에 깊은 관심을 가지고, 패션의 문법과 제작방식을 변용한 작품을 파운드리 서울에서 선보일 예정이다.
